The Best Ways of Coping with Anxiety Attacks...

It was almost 20 years ago when I first started to experience anxiety attacks. At that time, not many people were discussing this problem, although many people did silently have it. At one point in my life, I was so overcome by anxiety and panic that I was afraid to leave my house out of fear that if I did leave my "safe zone", I might lose control altogether. It was taking over my life, and I needed to find a way of coping with anxiety attacks that would work for me.

I began to seek the help of a naturalist who was versed in ancient Chinese medicine, along with a number of other homeopathic treatments for anxiety attacks. What I began to learn is the fact that my body was out of balance on the inside and that the anxiety that I was feeling was actually a natural response to stress. All of us have this response built into us, it is known as the fight or flight process. When we come up against a situation and our back is against the wall, our body prepares itself to either fight or to flee. Unfortunately, my body was out of balance as far as this process was concerned.

Although there were a number of underlying causes for my anxiety attacks that needed to be treated, that was not the end of my healing process. Shortly after beginning to take these homeopathic treatments, I began to receive some relief from the anxiety that I was feeling but it was not gone altogether. I began to learn that coping with anxiety attacks was just as important as treating them naturally.

Although there are a number of different ways of coping with anxiety attacks, there are two that truly helped me to be able to overcome them naturally. The first one is to put myself in a situation where I was forcing myself into an anxiety attack. Of course, it is impossible to bring an anxiety attack on because you are willing it, but something interesting was happening. Just as it is impossible for you not to think about something whenever you're attempting not to think about it, it is impossible for your body to go into an anxiety attack when you are forcing it to do so. I know it sounds a little odd, but it was quite effective.

Something else that I did was to consider the panic attack to be like a wave on the ocean. I often found myself fighting my way through the panic in order to get to the other side as quickly as possible. I stopped fighting the panic that I was experiencing and tried to lift myself on top of it, in order to ride it out until it was completed. This helped to reduce the level of panic that I experienced, along with shortening its duration.

Although there are a number of different ways of coping with anxiety attacks, finding the one that works the best for you is the most important. Once you have this mechanism in place, you will find that you are not only able to deal with each anxiety attack effectively, you will eventually be able to push them away altogether.
