Are You Panicking over Public Speaking?
There are plenty of things that make people nervous
but one of the things that tends to make them more nervous than
anything else is public speaking. As a matter of fact, even the
thought of speaking in public is enough to cause an anxiety attack
in many people. Standing up in front of an audience can certainly
cause a number of problems but you need to understand and get to
the root of these problems in order to overcome them effectively.
The first thing that you need to understand is
that public speaking is not causing a panic attack in you, it is
simply the trigger that causes it to come to the front. If you are
truly having panic attacks, it is caused by some other problem that
is going on within your body or your mind. In order for you to overcome
the panic attacks, you need to be able to identify what that problem
is and then treat it from that source. Otherwise, you will continue
to have the panic attacks and at times, may even suffer from them
whenever you are not in a position where public speaking is an issue.
There are also times whenever you just may be
anxious over the fact that you need to get up in front of an audience.
Some people begin to panic if they have to stand up in front of
two people, even if they know them personally. They may be able
to stand and have a conversation with these individuals but there
is something about the thought of controlling an audience that seems
to make people very anxious. Believe it or not, you can actually
turn this to your benefit but it is going to take a little bit of
work on your part in order to do so.
Anxiety is a natural human response to situations
that we may find ourselves in. Public speaking is only one part
of a long list of things that tend to cause people to be anxious.
To tell you the honest truth, even the most composed speakers are
often full of anxiety whenever they are on stage but they are conditioned
to to be able to channel that anxiety into making them even better
public speakers. If you find that you are not anxious whenever you're
on stage, more than likely your performance or speech is going to
be lackluster.
The unfortunate thing is, there are very few things
that you can do in order to overcome this anxiety that you are feeling.
One of the best things, believe it or not, it is simply to get up
in front of an audience as often as possible. It also helps if you're
intimately familiar with the subject on which you will be speaking.
By doing so, you will not only be able to overcome any anxiety that
you are feeling but you will be able to use any trace of anxiety
to your benefit
