Anxiety and Stress Management
Let’s face it, stress and anxiety are a part of life. There is no way you will ever completely get away from feeling certain levels of stress
and anxiety in your life. Keep in mind stress and anxiety can sometimes be a good thing. Stress can be a great motivator and push us to do
things we would normally never set out to do. Stress can help give us the confidence to move forward and change our lives.
The key is how we control stress and anxiety and put the energy to good use instead of letting it control us. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying
before, “Too much of anything is usually never a good thing” The same applies to stress and anxiety.
The first step to controlling stress is by recognizing the symptoms or causes of stress in your life. It’s not always easy to discern why stress
is bothering you for each situation you may encounter. Some of the most common events that trigger stress and anxiety are birth of a child, loss
of your job, new relationship, and death of a loved one. Any major changes in life can bring about intense feelings of stress and anxiety. This
is your body’s way of asking for help when you feel these stress and anxiety symptoms.
The first step in stress management is by discovering the root of the problem. What exactly is triggering the stressful emotions? Find a quiet
place where you can meditate and shut yourself out of the world. Only until you discover where the emotions are coming from can you then begin to
control your emotions.
If you have a hard time understanding the root of the emotions then try talking to someone else about your problems to gain a different
perspective. They may be able to shed light on things that you never would have thought about on your own.
After identifying the root of the problem then try looking at the reason why you experienced the stress from a different view. For example try
analyzing things with a sense of humor and you may be surprised to see it’s not that bad after all.
If you can’t seem to see any humor in your feelings then try to figure out why you’re experiencing the stress and anxiety. Is it something
beyond your control? There’s no sense in feeling stress and anxiety for things out of your control. Last of all avoid negative thoughts as best
you can. Remember positive thoughts will reap positive emotions.
